Webmasters - Update 2009

Action or Reaction?

Has our nation's economy stopped your progress at work, home or play? It came close to it for me recently.

Cannon Ranch was sold because the horse market in Texas could not be much worse. We said goodbye to 14 horse friends, a world of space, and many human friends as well.

At first I reacted with much anger before realizing it wasn't our fault. Our actions had not caused the problem. My own reactions, however, did make it worse.

So what does this story have to do with this webmaster's update?

Once again, SBI! unknowingly helped save the day. I found a copy of an older book Ken wrote, titled "Why People Fail." I did find a bit of myself in there and realized I was reacting not acting.

Rising Above It All

Given there was little I could do to save the Texas horse economy, the wife and I took action. The ranch was sold.

We packed up our belongings, and set out to realize one of my wife's dreams. That was to go back to the mountains where she was raised.

Being a flatlander from Texas I wasn't sure how this idea was going to pan out...

We didn't have much snow, bears were only on TV, and forest fires were news items.

But here I sit now, next door (literally!) to South Mountain in New Mexico.

New Life

You might be wondering how our "actions" turned out so far?

  • My mortgage broker here is now a friend and a client.

  • The real estate agent is now a friend and a client.

  • The company that built my huge "man-cave" as my son in law calls it (a 30 ft. x 50 ft. hobby shop) are also friends and clients.

  • My brother's taxman asked him to have us call him because his website needs help.

  • And, we have just finished an instructional teleclass series for a large law firm marketing group in Florida, which needed internet marketing help for their membership and their alliances with companies like theirs.

  • Most important to me... I can now dedicate my days to the things I enjoy most. There were no failures. Instead, we've achieved more opportunities.

So if you're down and out, have issues you can't seem to deal with, your website isn't working, and failure seems to be the theme of the day. Get over your reaction and take action.

You're In Charge

Stuff does happen and only you control the effect it has on you.

Use the tools Ken and crew provide and carve out what you need from a lousy economy. Take the hint and learn more about business to do better business even in times like these.

My other updates will tell you it all started for me at SBI! with $50. I haven't spent that last paycheck I mentioned either.

Take action now, because I assure you that complaining will fall on deaf ears.

Save that energy because there's way more business out there than you think.

Don't give up. It's very likely SBI! has some Action Steps you have not taken.
